Guttenberg Press, Thur., 16 Oct. 1924.

The passing of Claus Luetje occurred at 7:40 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 9, 1924, at his home in Guttenberg, Iowa, his age being 81 years, 9 months and 29 days. The deceased was ill many months. Over a year ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis since which time he occupied a wheel chair. October 6th another stroke further prostrated him.

The deceased was born at Holstein, Germany, Dec. 11, 1842. He came to America in July, 1862, and settled in Elk township, Clayton county, Iowa, where he resided until 1909, when he retired from the farm, moving to Elkport, thence to Guttenberg in 1911, and since resided here. Oct 3, 1877, Wilhelina Hannaman became his wife, the ceremony taking place at Garnavillo, who survives, together with one son, George, by a former marriage, of Portland, Oregon; also two sons and six daughters, viz.: John and Charles of Guttenberg; and Mrs. Fred Flagel of Bayard; Mrs. Charles Heimbrodt of Clinton; Mrs. Roy Francis of Maquoketa; Mrs. Wallace Caley of Sherrard, Ill.; Mrs. Ben Eilers of Guttenberg; and Mrs. Alfred Yaeger of Savanna, Ill.; and ten grandchildren. All of the children were here for the funeral, as well as relatives as follows: Mrs. Louis Hartwig, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Harbaugh, Harrison Hannaman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hockbarth of Earlville, Iowa; and Mrs. Dora Ziegler and son George of Luana, Iowa. There were also present the following out-of-town friends: Mr. and Mrs. Lant Caley of Lancaster, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Borrett and daughter, Mrs. Paul Berns and Mrs. John Wathen of Garber, Iowa; and Messrs. George Kriebs, Chas. Brandtman, Will Costigan and _____ Haffner of Elkport.

The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 13, 1924, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, Guttenberg, Iowa, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. T. Finck. Interment in Guttenberg cemetery.
