Funeral services were held for Emil Gossman Wednesday, Sept. 0 (30 ?), 1959, at the Peace E. and R. hurch (church) at 2 p.m with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at the East Side cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Leonard, John Maehl Sr., Eldon Severson, Ed Walz, George Schmidt and Roy Dittmer.
Emil Gossman, son of Henry and Alvina Suhr Gossman, was born March 14, 1887, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at his home at Elkader early Monday morning, Sept. 28, 1959.
Mr. Gossman lived his entire life in this community, farming until 1944 when he and his wife moved to Elkader where they resided at the time of his death.
He received his education in the rural schools of Read township. On December 18, 1912, he was united in marriage to Lena Funk at the Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center.
Mr. Gossman was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, and a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Lauher and Mrs. James (Loretta) Marino, Chicago; two sons, Lloyd, Chicago, and Kenneth, Elkader; seven grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters, Arno Gossman, Elkader, and Charles, Clayton Center, Mrs. Alvin Breitsprecher, Luana, and Mrs. Theodore Matt, Garnavillo.
