The death of Mrs. Frank Phillips, 72, occurred suddenly at her home Friday night, Sept. 25, 1959. Death was due to a heart attack.
She was the daughter of William Susie and Margaret Schroeder Susie, born June 5, 1887, in Clayton County, Iowa. After she was graduated from the Volga high school, she taught for several years in different rural schools.
On Feb. 12, 1911, she was united in marriage to Clarencee Voshell. They were the parents of two children, Margie and William. Mr. Voshell died in 1920. Later, she and the children moved from the farm to Volga.
In January 1922, Marion was appointed postmaster at Volga and served until June 1926. From that date until 1933, she served as postal clerk under Charles E. Lovett, who was postmaster during those years.
In July 1934, Marion was united in marriage to Frank Phillips, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1958.
On Jan. 1, 1899, she united with the Volga Methodist Church on confession of faith, continued her membership throughout her life. She was also a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Pathfinder Sunday School class of the church and a member of the community Sunshine Club for 40 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Francis Kitterman, Volga; her son William Voshell, Lakewood, Calif.; four granddaughters, one grandson; one brother, Fred Susie, Kenyon, Minn., and other relatives. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alfred Christensen, pastor, in charge. Mrs. Kenneth Jennings, organist, accompanied the vocalists, Mrs. Wallace Oldfather and Miss Carol Moore. Flower bearers were Mrs. Fred Gernand and Mrs. Clifford Brandt. Those who served as casket bearers were G. W. Crandall, J. Walter Roys, Wm. J. Wilker, Fred Gernand, Selmer Olson and Roy Candee.
Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
