William John Blietz, son of Charles and Louisa Blietz, was born April 14, 1892 and departed this life on August 9, 1930 at the age of 38 years, 3 months and 15 days.

He was taken seriously ill on July 29 with pneumonia which developed into more serious complications resulting in his death. His illness through of brief duration was marked by acute suffering. Everything that loving hands and medical care could devise was done to stay the hand of death but it was God's will that he depart this mortal existence.

Though busily engaged as a farmer he never forgot the God who created him. All his life he lived true to principles and doctrines of the Catholic church and during his last agony had all the consolations which Mother church, thru the merits of Christ, gives to the dying. All that knew him admired his faith, character and zeal and his death is a great loss to this community.

Mr. Blietz spent his entire life on the farm where he was born. On Nov. 16, 1915 he was united in marriage with Mary Lestina, who with three sons, Giles William, age 14 years, Marion Francis, age 12 years and Roger Damain, age 2 1/2 years mourn his untimely departure.

Other relatives surviving are his father, Mr. Chas. Blietz of Monona, three brothers, Albert Blietz of Carbondale, Ill., Joseph and Hugo Blietz of Monona; three sisters, Mrs. Augusta Tayek of McGregor, Mrs. Adeline Steiert, of Monona and Mrs. Melvina Snell of Buffalo Center. His mother and a brother, Ben, preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday at St. Patrick's church, Father Vernon Peters sang the Requiem Mass and delivered a highly instructive sermon. Father Donald Peters, of Dubuque, was also present in the sanctuary and assisted at the graveside. The Gregorian Requiem was chanted by the choir of St. Patrick's.

The pall bearers were six brother-in-laws of the deceased: Edw. Lestina, Ben Lestina, Frank Klima, Louis Steiert, D.R. Snell and Ben Tayek.

The spiritual and floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Albert Blietz of Carbondale, Ill., Joseph Voss and family of Akron, Iowa; Marie Klima of Milwaukee, Wis.; D.R. Snell and family of Buffalo Center; Louis Tencke, Wm. Blietz and daughter of Garnavillo.

Card of Thanks
In our bereavement our hearts turn with gratitude to those kind neighbors and friends who assisted us and manifested their sympathy in so many ways at the time of the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. We thank each one sincerely.

~Monona Leader, August 14, 1930
