Clayton County Register, Thur., 30 Apr. 1953.

Funeral services for Manuel George Arnold, 90, retired Strawberry Point farmer, were held in the Methodist church at Strawberry Point on Tuesday afternoon, April 21, with the Rev. Wayne L. Carlson officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Mr. Arnold was born on October 20, 1862, at Schapsville, Ill., the son of Henry and Augusta Schapps Arnold. He received his education in the rural schools and on February 21, 1884, was married to Minnie Ellen Hancock of Shullsburg, Wisconsin. They established their home on a farm near Strawberry Point and farmed over 36 years until they retired and moved to Strawberry Point where they have lived since that time. While farming, Mr. Arnold's chief hobby was raising purebred livestock. He also served as secretary of the Strawberry Point Fair Association for some time. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Arnold enjoyed good health until about a year and a half ago when Mrs. Arnold fell and broke her hip. She has been an invalid since that time. Mr. Arnold's health failed rapidly the past several weeks and he died Saturday evening, April 18, at 7:40 p.m. The couple had observed their 69th wedding anniversary in February.

Mr. Arnold is survived by his widow; a son, Ray of Highland, Indiana; a son, William H., pioneer automobile dealer of Strawberry Point; a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Huebsch (Eva) of Strawberry Point; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Edward, and a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Thomas.
