John R. King, 79, died at his home in Strawberry Point at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24. Mr. King was born at Arlington, on June 28, 1873, the son of James and Phoebe Wright King. On April 4, 1900, he was married to Miss Mary Moine at Grant City, Missouri. Mrs. King, together with a son, Harold M. Kling (King ??) of Fort Dodge, and a daughter, Mrs. L. J. (Myrtle) Schmidt of Strawberry Point, survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Mr. King was a member of the Congregational church, the Masonic lodge and Cedar Rapids Consistory. He was for many years in the implement business in Strawberry Point and served as Cass township clerk for 16 years, a position to which he was re-elected last fall. However, his declining health made it unwise for him to continue his work and he did not qualify for the present term. Mr. King was a lover of flowers and spent many hours in his garden. His death came after several months of declining health.
Funeral services were held at the Gill funeral chapel at 1:00 p.m. Monday, at Strawberry Point, with the Rev. Wayne L. Carlson officiating. Burial was in Strawberry Point.
