Flora Amelia Meier (nee Shultz) was born January 6, 1876, at Prairie du Chien, Wis., the daughter of Henry and Caroline Schultz. Her early girlhood days were spent in Prairie du Chien.

On March 24, 1896, she was united in marriage to John D. Meier at Prairie du Chien, Wis. They established their new home in Farmersburg township, Iowa, where she lived all the rest of her life. The couple had eight children. Her husband and one daughter, Blanche, preceded her in death.

All her life she was a faithful follower of her church, first at Prairie du Chien then with the Prairie Evangelical church and later at Monona until her health no longer permitted her to attend. She was a charter member of the Women's missionary society of the Prairie church and later of the Women's Society of World Service at Monona until her death.

On March 24, 1946, she and her husband had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary at their farm home with their children and many friends.

She was one of a family of three children; one sister, one brother, and her parents preceded her in death.

Mrs. Meier died at her home March 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the age of 77 years, 2 months, 17 days.

Surviving are seven children: Esther, Willis and Milton at the farm home; Walter of Garnavillo; Alice (Mrs. Henry Comnick) of Farmersburg; Hazel (Mrs. Thomas Jones) of Monona, and Florence (Mrs. Frederick Becker) of McGregor; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, March 26, at 1:00 p.m. from the farm home to the Pilgrim Evangelical United Brethren church at Monona, with the Rev. A. W. Ebert officiating.

Music was provided by a male quartet consisting of Leroy Eiffert, Harlan Hass, Davis Schlitter and John Wachter, who sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Under His Wings," The organist was Mrs. A. W. Ebert.

Pallbearers were: Irvin Meyer, Grover Miller, Harvey Debes, Roy Eiffert, Melvin Beimfohr and Robert Hicks.

Assisting with the flowers were: Norma Miller, Mrs. Melvin Beimfohr and Mrs. Emil Zurcher. Burial was in Giard cemetery.
