Mary Ann Farrell was born on a farm near Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of John Farrell Sr. and Bridget Duggan. She was educated in the grade schools of Clayton county and high school at Clermont.
She was an accomplished designer and dressmaker and was engaged in this profession at Monona until the death of her mother in 1901.
She returned home and kept house and took care of her father until his death in 1911.
She kept house for her brothers, Frank and Eddie, for sometime after.
On August 15, 1916, she was united in marriage to William G. Ecker at West Union, where they established their home. Mr. Ecker died Dec. 28, 1946.
Mrs. Ecker continued to live at west Union until Sept. 8, 1952, when she moved to Elkader to make her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank Farrell.
Mrs. Ecker was preceded in death by her father and mother; five brothers, John, James, Frank, Thomas, and Eddie; and one sister, Julia Agnes.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Estelle Eager of Mitchell, S. Dak., and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Elkader.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Saturday, Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m., with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. German officiating.
Pallbearers were: Wm. Ehrhardt Sr., Fred Kuehl, George Kuehl, Mike Hurley, Elmer Schmeal, Harry Kelleher.
