Mrs. Caroline Junk
It has pleased God in his infinite wisdom to call out of time into eternity on March 28th, about one o’clock in the afternoon, Mrs. Caroline Junk. One of the oldest of our community is gone. One the 5th of December, 1839, she was born at Schlattow (Pommern) Germany. Six days after her birth she received the gift of Holy Baptism and on the 10th of April, 1853, by confirmation, she entered the communion of the church. At the age of 29 she was united in marriage to Heinrich Las. Only four years they lived together when death took the husband away. In 1874, on the 15th of March, she became the wife of Mr. Karl Junk. Like many others they emigrated to America in 1874; having reached the harbor of New York they came to Clayton. From there they moved to Clayton Centre. Here they built up the place, now known as the Gerdes place. On the 14th of May, 1905, the husband and father died, leaving the mourning mother and four daughters, Lina, married to Louis Heuer; Anna, married to the former Karl Glawe; Alwine, married to Eduard Breitsprecher. All three of them preceded the mother in death, the only remaining is Minna, married to Charley Rantzow.
The departed surpassed the Biblical age, but her life proves the bible truth: “Yet is their pride but labor and sorrow.” Many troubles and hardships occurred to her during her pilgrimage. In 1915 she lost one of her legs by an amputation. But she took the good and the bad days out of the hand of God. His word was her comfort until she breathed out her soul. Twenty-six years she spent at the home of her surviving daughter and her son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Rantzow, who paid her the tribute of their love. In 1929 a light stroke lamed her on one side. Since last fall the strength was leaving her more and more. Her last weeks were such ones of great sufferings and weakness until she departed. She had been an active member of the Ladies Aid of Lutheran Zion’s church.
The time of her earthly pilgrimage was 91 years, three months and 25 days. May she rest in peace and the eternal light may shine unto her.
Those mourning are Mr. and Mrs. Charley Rantzow, twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, March 31st, Rev. Berthold Korte officiating. Burial was made in the old cemetery of Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Centre.
Endlich hast du ueberwunden
Manche harte, schwere Sunden;
Manchen Tag and manche Nacht
Hast du in Schmerzen zugebracht.
Standhaft hast du sie ertragen,
Deine Schmerzen, deine Plagen,
Bis der Tod dein Auge brach—
Doch bist du im Himmel wach.CARD OF THANKS
We wish to thank all who assisted us during the sickness and burial of our dear mother and grand-mother, especially the choir for the beautiful songs in the church and at the grave, for the many and beautiful flowers, tokens of love and esteem from neighbors, friends and relatives of the departed.
Mr. and Mrs. Charley Rantzow and relatives.
