Graveside services were held Tuesday at Oakland cemetery in Iowa City for William L. Davis, 66, former Iowa City resident, who died Saturday at Republic, Mo. Mr. Davis succumbed suddenly to a heart attack at his home in Republic, where he had resided since moving from Iowa City in 1941.
Mr. Davis was born August 28, 1886 at Volga, the son of Frank and Nora Tenney Davis, and from the age of 11 years was associated in the poultry business.
He went to Iowa City in 1917 from Manchester to assume the managership of the Feeney and Kaemmeric poultry business. He purchased the company in 1922 and in 1925 formed a partnership with Priebe and Sons of Chicago, which continued 14 years. Moving to Republic, he started a hatchery in 1943 and operated it until the time of his death.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death on March 10, 1933, by his first wife, the former Della Marie Bentley. The couple had resided in Iowa City.
In November, 1935, he married Mrs. Mary L. Connell of Iowa City. Survivors include the widow, two sons, Bernard and Howard Davis, both of Republic, and four grandchildren, and a half brother, Lund E. Marble of Volga.
While a resident of Iowa City, Mr. Davis was prominent in the Chamber of Commerce and served as president of that group. He also was a member of the B.P.O.E., 590, in Iowa City and the Lions club and Christian church at Republic.
The Rev. A. Taylor Mahanay of the Christian church of Republic officiated at the graveside services at Iowa City.
