Funeral services for Allen Hansel, 93, were held from the Rhines funeral home to the Edgewood Methodist church Monday, May 4. The Rev. Laurence Marshburn was in charge of the services. Burial was in the family lot in the Edgewood cemetery.

Pallbearers included: Roland Fall, Francis Arthur, Paul Funk, Walter Reimer, Lynn Ashline and Virgil Meese. Honorary pallbearers included: R. C. Cocking, Roy Alcorn, Paul Reimer, C. J. Rulon, Jesse Tyrrell and George Thompson.

Allen Hansel, son of Phillip and Elzina Hansel was born June 1, 1859, near Garber, Iowa. He was married to Emma Smith of Elkport in 1881. They farmed near Garber, and later moved to a farm near Edgewood. In 1908 they sold the Edgewood farm and moved into Edgewood. He spent many years operating the meat market in Edgewood. Mrs. Hansel died March 30, 1946.

He is survived by four daughters and two sons, one brother and two sisters, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Surviving daughters are Effie Galer of Maywood, Calif.; Beryl Wright of Kansas City, Mo.; Norah Piersol of Bell, Calif.; and Beulah Randolph of Tulare, Calif. The sons are Earl and Clifford of Edgewood. His surviving brother is Marshall of Greely and his sisters are Mrs. Ella Kucera of Zimmerman, Minn., and Mrs. Arthur DuBois of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Delbert and Weldon, and one daughter Flossie.

He was one of Edgewoods oldest residents. He died at his home in Edgewood May 1, after a long illness, at the age of 93 years 11 months. Mr. Hansel was one of the pioneers of the community, a familiar figure in the town and of jovial disposition. His tales of his youth, here and in the West passed many a happy hour for his friends and himself. He was a member of the Methodist church in Edgewood. Following the death of his wife in 1946, he made his home with his son Clifford.
