At an early hour on Tuesday morning, Jan. 5th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed. Hofer, of this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Toutsch, at the advanced age of 86 years and seven months.
She was taken sick on New Year's morning, and, in spite of all that loving hands or medical aid could do, she passed to her eternal reward, as she had lived, a faithful catholic, a true mother and a dear friend. Her death has cast a deep gloom over the home, where for many years she had been so faithfully and tenderly cared for.
Catherine Willmes was born at Kaundorf, Luxemberg, Germany, June 5th, 1828, and was married to Nicholas Toutsch, who preceeded her in death about 45 years [ago], leaving her with six small children, three of whom survive her, one daughter, Mrs. Ed. Hofer and two sons, Henry Toutsch and John besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, and also one sister, Mrs. Peter Miller.
Mrs. Toutsch was always a loving, kind and cheerful woman, thereby endearing herself to all, and especially to those which whom she came in daily contact. Her virtues will ever live in the memory of the home from which she has departed.
The funeral was held Thursday morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Reilly officiating at a requiem mass, assisted by Rev. Father Raedler, of Garnavillo, and Rev. Father Hethrington, of Volga City.
The relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Phil Heles, of Dubuque, and Mr. and Mrs. John Fehr, of Lena, Ill.
