Marcella M. Snedigar youngest child of Fielding and Miranda (Hayes) Snedigar, was born at Elkader, Iowa, August 10, 1862, and died at her home near Fayette, Iowa December 23, 1912 at the age of fifty years, four months and thirteen days.

Though the first six years of her childhood and a part of her early womanhood were passed in Elkader, the greater part of her life was spent on the old farm well known as "Corn Hill Farm" where she resided at the time of her death.

In 1891 she was united in marriage to Andrew N. Toutsch. To this union were born four children, Marshal B. born in 1893, Harvey N. born in 1894, Henry L. born in 1899 and Bessie born in 1903 who died at the age of six weeks.

Mr. Toutsch preceeded his wife to the next life, August 7, 1910.

Beside the three children there are two brothers, two sisters, numerous nephews and nieces [sic] and many friends left to mourn her loss.

From the day of her birth she was one of earth's afflicted ones - a hopeless cripple by reason of which through much suffering her life was embittered.

Still she possessed many admirable qualities of which were love for nature and great kindness of heart toward all dumb creatures. Though often impatient with those she best loved, her heart was invariably warm and pitying towards a suffering animal, or any unfortunate member of the brute creation.

Thus her whole life seemed in many ways a sort of bundle of contradictions, in which kindness, harshness, pity, impatience, gentleness and love were strangely intermingled.

Yet let none of us who have whole and sound bodies DARE criticize her, for none of us can say that in her place and with her afflictions we would have wrought better than did she; but in the semblance of the words of that merciful One let the one of us who is never irritable, never unkind - let that one cast at her memory the first stone.

The funeral was conducted at the Methodist church at Fayette on Thursday, Rev. G.H. Kennedy officiating.
