Richard Alwyn "Dick" Schlitter, age 61, of rural Waterville, Iowa, formerly of Sherrill, Iowa died on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held on Wednesday June 1, 2005 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Waukon. Rev. Steven Campbell officiated and burial was at the Sixteen Cemetery in rural Monona, Iowa.

Richard was born to Herbert and Lorraine (Jones) Schlitter on April 8, 1944 in Waukon, Iowa. During his lifetime he was faithfully cared for by his parents until their deaths at which time, he was provided care from various aunts. At the time of his death he was attending TASC in Waukon and was living with his aunt Ruth Hamm.

Dick is survived by his aunt Ruth Hamm; his sister Carolyn (Jack) Brown, his nephew Jamie Brown of Tacoma, Washington; and his Schlitter, Jones, and Hamm relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

Honorary casket bearers were Kenny Hamm, Barton Hamm, Lester Erickson, Dayton Jones, Milton Jones, Leon Jones, Carl Jones, Chester Swanson, and Roger Benzing. Casket bearers were Randy Hamm, Loren Hamm, Chris Stern, Nick Jones, Ronny Benzing, and Morgan Smith.
