Funeral services for Fred C. Wilke, of Farmersburg, were held Saturday, October 3, at the Witt Funeral Home at 1:10 and at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the old Clayton Center cemetery.

Fred C., the son of Fred W. and Dorothea (Laudon) Wilke, was born October, 7, 1879, in Read township. He was a farmer and lived in Read township, after retiring he lived at Farmersburg, Fayette and Rock Island, Ill. He served on the church council, was treasurer and also a member of the choir.

On October 17, 1900, he was united in marriage to Emilie M. Engelhardt at Farmersburg. She died in 1936. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred H. Wilker, at Rock Island, Ill., on Tuesday, September 29, at 5:00 p.m.

He is survived by three daughters and one son, Edna, Mrs. George Harnack, Farmersburg; Amanda, Mrs. Fred H. Wilker, Rock Island Ill.; Helen, Mrs. Clarence Engelhardt, Farmersburg; and Lorenz Wilke, Fayette; also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, August Wilke, Elkader; and one sister, Mrs. Herman Palas, St. James, near Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada.

One son, Erwin, preceded him in death, he lost his life in Italy with the Air Force, July 31, 1943.

Pallbearers were Herbert Deal, Arno Kruse, Lester Oelke, Marvin Klinkenberg, James Matthews Jr., and LeRoy Reardon.

Relatives and friends that attended the service are Mr. and Mrs. Otto Mandelkow, Roy Mandelkow, Lorenz Mandelkow, Red Wing, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Wilker, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Wilker and Duane Wilker, Rock Island, Ill.; and Miss Mabel Palas, St. James, near Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada.
