Funeral services for Mrs. August Taake were held at the Witt Funeral Home at 1:30 and at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center, at 2:00, with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the New Clayton Center cemetery.
Lucy Emma Buckman, the daughter of August and Wilhelmine (Tewes) Buckman, was born Aug. 10, 1881, in Read township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center, by the Rev. F. W. Seifert. She received her education in the rural schools.
On Dec. 3, 1903, she was united in marriage to August Taake at the home of her parents in Read township. They farmed in Read township until their retirement to Elkader in 1941. She fell and broke her arm in August of this year and had been home only about two weeks from the hospital at Prairie du Chien when she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was taken back to the hospital where she died Saturday, September 26, at 11 a.m.
She is survived by her husband, August, two daughters, Elsie, Mrs. Wilhelm Cords, Dubuque; Loretta, Mrs. Ewald Fascher, Elkader; two sons, Waldo and Ervin Taake living on farms near Clayton Center; and five grandchildren. Also a brother, Lorenzo Buckman, Elkader; and a sister, Mrs. George Tieden, Elkader.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lester, who died in 1921; and a grandson, Dwayne Taake. Also, two brothers, August and Arthur Buckman; and one sister, Mrs. George Taake.
Pallbearers were: Aaron Tieden, George Kelpien, Theodore Glawe, George Hechhaus, Wm. Freitag, and Amos Meier.
