Services Held for Ella Best, 102
Mrs. Ella Best died Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 1988 at the Guttenberg Care Center at the age of 102.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, and were conducted by the Rev. Dan Christensen.
Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with the following pallbearers: Stanton Klinge, Oran Engelhardt, Carlys Best, Vernon Glawe, Veris Engelhardt and Don Koss.
Mrs. Best was born Jan. 10, 1886 in Read Township, Clayton County, to Henry and Minnie (Radloff) Lemke. She was married Dec. 15, 1904 at Clayton Center to Charles Best, who died in 1948. The couple farmed near Clayton Center before retiring and moving to Elkader. Mrs. Best moved to Guttenberg in 1964 and entered the care facility in 1974.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Wilma) Barnhart Sr., of Guttenberg; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Minnie Klinge of Elkader.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, five sisters, and a nephew, Dwayne Marting, who was raised by Mrs. Best.
Leonard-Witt Funeral Home Elkader was in charge of arrangements.
