Mrs. Catharine Meyer, Former Resident Here, Died; Buried Tuesday
Mrs. Catherine Meyer, a former resident of Guttenberg, died Saturday afternoon in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Beerman, in Dubuque. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Meyer was the last surviving member of the family of Bernard and Catherine Schuette, who came to Guttenberg in 1870. She was born Nov. 9, 1850, in Haelte, hanover, Germany, and remainded there until she was 20 years old, when she came to this country with her parents.
She was married here six years later – Sept. 19, 1876 - to Anton Meyer, and to them were born seven children three sons and four daughters. Three of the daughters survive. They are Mrs. Clara Matous, Mrs. Catherine DeSotel, and Mrs. Mathilda Beerman, all of Dubuqe. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.
Mrs. Meyer left Guttenberg 10 years ago to make her home in Dubuque. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic church there, but retained her membership in the St. Ann’s society of St. Mary’s church here.
Funeral services were held in Dubuque Tuesday morning, followed by burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery here.
