Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Oct. 1921.

Fritz Heiden, son of Fritz and Hannah Heubner Heiden, was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, October 15th, 1838, and at the age of 18 years emigrated (with) his parents to America in 1857. It took them six weeks to cross the water where now they cross in six days. Landing in America they came to Osbourne in Clayton county where Mr. Heiden was engaged in farming and has lived nearly 64 years.

On January the 25th, 1862, he was united in marriage to Dorothea Mayer, who preceded him in death 32 years ago. To this union were born ten children, two of whom died in infancy, and one, Mrs. Matt Schoepf, aged 27 years, died March 8th, 1900. The surviving children are: A. W. Heiden of Wadena, F. L. Heiden and Mrs. George Cassidy of Elkader, Mrs. C. J. Cords of McGregor, Mrs. George Feller of Osbourne, and Charley and Amelia at home, who have tenderly cared for their father during his declining years. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Heiden was the last surviving member of a family of two brothers and three sisters and had reached the ripe old age of 82 years, 11 months and 26 days.

About five years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke from which time his health gradually failed. October 9th he again suffered another stroke, never regaining consciousness and on Tuesday evening, October 11th at 8 o'clock, passed peacefully to the Great Beyond. Mr. Heiden was a man of quiet unassuming disposition and industrious habits, who ever lived in peace and harmony with his neighbors. As a husband and father he approached the Ideal and in his passing away the community has lost a good citizen and friend.

The funeral services were held at his home at 1 p.m. this afternoon and his remains laid to rest in the Mederville cemetery, beside those of his wife and children. The pall bearers were John Sturm, John Paul, Louis Lemka, Louis Klink, Henry Cords and Hugo Gusta.
