Elkader Register, Thur., 1 Sept. 1921. Marquette column.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Downing went to Monona Sunday to attend the funeral of Mr. Downing's cousin, John Downing*, a soldier whose body was returned from France.

*Note: More than likely, the soldier's name was William or William John Downing, s/o John & Mary (Bonzer)Downing. He died in WWI, 1918. Burial is in the Monona City cemetery.
