Elkader Register, Thur. 23 Aug. 1921.

Mary Anne Fitzpatrick was born on Sept. 25, 1851, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and peacefully passed away at her home west of West Union, Aug. 9, 1921, after a lingering illness, which affliction she bore patiently and with Christian resignation.

in 1855 she came with her parents, Catherine and Patrick Fitzpatrick, to Clayton county, where they located on a farm in Cox Creek township. She received her education in the public schools of Clayton county, and afterward taught school most successfully for eight years.

On April 22, 1878, at Elkader, she was united in marriage with Michael Wiley of Littleport, where they made their home until 1908, when they removed to West Union. To this union five children were born, of whom one, Catherine, passed away in infancy. Those surviving are John of Littleport on the old homestead; Mrs. Thomas Brady of Kermit, N.D.; and Mary and Frank at home.

Besides her husband she is survived by one brother, James Fitzpatrick of Sawyer, N.D. and by nine grandchildren.

In her passing the loved ones have lost a loyal wife and a loving and devoted mother. Funeral services were held Friday morning at 8 o'clock from Holy Name church, and afterward Father Roney accompanied the funeral cortege to Littleport, where she was laid to rest in Sacred Heart cemetery.

The pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased - Frank Wiley, John Lucey, and John Wiley of Edgewood; E. Fitzpatrick of Elkader; John Wiley of Edgewood, and Charles Wiley of Manchester.

Among those attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiley, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lucey and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wiley of Edgewood; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wiley of Greeley; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Fitzpatrick of Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thurn of Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Quinn of Cox Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Raftis of Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wiley, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. John Wiley, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Putz of Edgewood; Mrs. Ringer of Britton, S.D.; Mrs. Quinlan of Rock Valley; John Lenanne of Maurice; and Mr. and Mrs. Austin McNamara of Littleport; James Sullivan, James Farrell, J. K. Molumby, James Fitzpatrick, Agnes Foran, Jane Connell, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stance and Martin and Katherine Stence, all of Elkader.
