Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Aug. 1921. Strawberry Point column.

Another link of the class of 1893 has been broken, this time taking Mrs. Oscar R. Davis, who passed away last Thursday evening at 12:30 o'clock. Lena Hines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hines, was born on a farm near Strawberry Point, Nov. 28, 1873. She attended the rural school until the family moved to town, when she attended the public school and graduated. She taught in the rural school and later taught the second primary room in our school. She was beloved by her scholars and their parents. She was conscientious and earnest teacher, a favorite with the children and young people of her school and her bright and sunny influence over them will last long after the mortal remains have crumbled away. On June 4, 1902, she was united in marriage to Oscar R. Davis. She built a home and she loved it. Mrs. Davis was an admirer of flowers and raised and cared for them as long as her health would let her. Lena as a friend was of everybody and respected by all. Besides her husband, parents, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Allen and Mrs. E. E. Jordan, besides a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in the Congregational church conducted by Rev. C. C. Harris, of Creston, a friend of the deceased, and the remains laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.

"We have but faith; we cannot know;
For knowledge is the thing we see;
And yet we trust it comes from Thee;
A beam in darkness let it grow."

Among the relatives and friends from out of town were Mrs. Frank Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Norris of Manchester, A. J. Maxwell of Epworth, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brossel and son of Peosta, Mrs. L. Sheppard of Red Oak, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Davis and children and Mrs. DuBois, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Davis and Irma Sevey of Edgewood, Mr. and Mrs. Henry __________ and Helen of Spring Valley, Minn., Mrs. Fred Gehring and children and Mrs. Maud Fitzgerald of Elgin.
