The community was shocked last Saturday when word passed from one to another announcing the sad death of Mrs. H. M. Eaton. Mrs. Eaton has not been well since she had the flu and at times would have spells. Last Friday evening she suffered one of these spells during the night and rallied so she was able to be up Saturday and about eleven o'clock she complained of not feeling well and went upstairs to lay down. When her husband came home for dinner he went upstairs and found her in bed covered up. At first he thought her asleep but a few minutes later found her dead.
Mrs. Eaton was formerly Miss Myrtle Gilchrist. She graduated from our public school in 1893 and this is the first death in the class that has occurred. On Nov. 14, 1899, she was united in marriage with Dr. H. M. Eaton. To this union one son, Myrwym, was born. Besides her husband and son she leaves two sisters and two brothers; Mrs. E. C. Rawson, of this place; Miss Mable Gilchrist, who teaches at Fairdale, Ill.; Daniel Gilchrist, of Globeville, Mich.; and Mal__lm Gilchrist, of this place; besides other relatives and friends. Her mother passed away in Sept. 1879; one sister, Nancy Jane, Oct. 9, 1985 (1885 ?); the father, Tyler Gilchrist, May 13, 1920. The funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Maxwell, pastor of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. Smith of the M.E. church of Volga. Rev. Maxwell read a poem, "Fl__ting," recently composed by Mrs. Eaton. It was one of the largest funerals ever held here and many beautiful flowers were placed upon the silver gray casket of a dear friend. She was an active member of the Fortnightly Club, P.E.O., W.R.C., and O.E.S., and from all these circles her presence will be missed as she always aimed to be present.
Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery. A number of relatives and friends from out of town attended the funeral. Her life ends, but her memory remains with us to be unforgotten.

For knowledge is of things we see;
And yet we trust it comes from Thee;
A beam in darkness, let it grow."
