Strawberry Point: The death of Mrs. Clara Wood occurred Monday after a brief illness of bronchial pneumonia at the home of her son, Philip Wood, southeast of town. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. James P. Gable, pastor of the Methodist church. The pallbearers were: W. D. Davis, J. F. Grassmeyer, N. A. Simmons, L. W. Preston, B. W. Talcott and H. M. Eaton. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery. Mrs. Wood, only daughter of Stephen and Victoria Smith Hebron, was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 18, 1861, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1880, settling on a farm near Strawberry Point.
On June 26, 1888, she was united in marriage to Frank Wood and the home was established on a farm nearby. After a few years they moved to Strawberry Point where they made their home for some time. Twenty years ago they moved to the farm that she and her parents had lived on when first coming from Buffalo.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood were the parents of five children: Nellie, who passed away in infancy and Robert, who died on July 31, 1916. Mr. Wood died in May, 1918, and since that time Mrs. Wood resided on the home place with her son, Philip.
Surviving are two daughters and one son, Mrs. Flora Elliot of Bremerton, Wash., Miss Alice, a graduate nurse in Chuquicamata, Chile, South America, and Philip Wood of Strawberry Point. There are also four brothers: Lawrence Hebron of Farina, Ill., George, Edwin, and Clarence Hebron of Strawberry Point.
