Guttenberg: Henry Matt, life-long resident of this community, passed away a his home here on Sunday at 5:00 p.m., at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 18 days, following a long illness. Mr. Matt was born on a farm in Jefferson township, Clayton county, on December 9, 1870, where he grew to manhood.
On May 10, 1898, he was married at Guttenberg to Miss Mary Ro'fes. While a resident of this place he was employed for many years at the Zimmerman and Ives sawmill and by the Meuser Lumber company. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and the Sacred Heart society. His death is deeply mourned by his wife; two sons, Siilverius Matt of Garnavillo, and Frank Matt of Guttenberg; two daughters, Mrs. William Kabat of LaCrosse, Wis., and Miss Alma Matt of Guttenberg; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. G. H. Kann of here, Mrs. Henry Althoeff of Dubuque, and Mrs. John Althoeff of Washington; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church in Guttenberg on Wednesday morning with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
