Charlotte Russell
Mrs. Charlotte Russell, 91, a resident of Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN, died Monday, Dec. 19 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah.
She was born Jan. 11, 1897, the daughter of John and Emma (Gebhart) Schmitt, near Monona, IA.
She was a graduate of Monona High School. She attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA, the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO and the Iowa State University in Ames; IA. She taught school for several years.
On July 6, 1927, she married Bruce Russell at Monona, IA. They farmed in the Monona area until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Mabel, where they lived until retiring and moving to Canton. He died Jan. 9, 1981.
She was a member of the Mabel united Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge.
Survivors are 2 sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Helen) Marting, Postville, and Mrs. Harvey (Erma) Marting, Monona.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mabel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carl Nielsen officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
