Earl William Seitz

Funeral services were held for Earl William Seitz, 65, Saturday, Feb. 1, 1992, at Elgin Lutheran Church, Elgin. Rev. Roland Waterman officiated the service with burial in Elgin Cemetery, Elgin. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Medberry and Ronald Hills. Pallbearers were Lyle Butikofer, Brad Moose, Kim Livingston, David Seitz, Allen Larson and Kris Seitz.

Earl William Seitz was born July 17, 1926, near Volney, Iowa, the son of Rufus and Sybil (Cowell) Seitz. He was raised and educated in the area graduating from the Luana Public School. He was baptized and confirmed at the Volney Methodist Church. He entered the United States Navy during World War II serving from July 14, 1944 until May 3, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. On March 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Elaine Larson at the Postville Lutheran Church. Five children were born to this union. Together they resided in Elgin all their married life. Through the years, Earl worked as a butcher, meat cutter, farmer and milk hauler. He died following a brief illness Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 1992, at the Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. He was a member of the Foursquare Victory Christian Church where he served on the church council. He raised and sold coon dogs for many years until ill health forced him to quit.

Survivors include his wife Betty, two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Diane) Boltz of Sumner, and Mrs. Kevin (Karen) Schmitt of Solon; two sons, Ron of West Union and Jim of Rosemount, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, Kelly, Krystal, Kari, Kasey and Kami Schmitt of Solon, Stephanie, Wendy and Tonya Seitz of Rosemount, Minn., Matthew, Mitchell and Grant Seitz of West Union, and Justin and Clayton Boltz of Sumner; three brothers, Louis of Monona, Dale of Clermont, and Leonard of Monona; and a sister, Mrs. Larry (Sarah) Butikofer of Elgin.

He was preceded in death by a son Jack in 1977; one sister; and by his parents.
