Funeral services for Viola Russell were held Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Pastor Harold O. Ward officiated. Mrs. Florence Evans was the organist.
Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Viola Nora Topel Russell, daughter of William and Mathilda (Schrader) Topel, was born December 19, 1916 in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died Friday, August 12, 1988 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville following a long illness.
She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She received her education in Evergreen Grove country school.
December 16, 1936, she married Lloyd Russell. The couple moved to Mason City, Iowa in 1942. They moved back to Monona in 1958. She worked as church custodian at St. Paul Lutheran Church for 18 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Paul's ELCA and Goodwill Circle and also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Workers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Florence Martens.
Surviving is her husband, Lloyd; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donald and Iva Henkes and Delos and Donna Martins, all of Monona and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Donald Martins, L'Dean Henkes, James Henkes, Dennis Martins, Dan Martins and Richard Moose.
