The death of M. J. O'Connor occurred at his home Saturday morning about 9:30, Aug. 24, 1935.

Michael J. O'Connor was born Dec. 2, 1868, in the western part of Maryland, the son of John and Margaret (Lenane) O'Connor. With his parents he came to Clayton county in 1882 and settled at Littleport, Iowa. He resided there until 43 years ago, when he came to Garber, where he resided until the time of his death. On Sept. 21, 1898, he was married to Miss Mary Downey, who preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1928. He leaves to mourn his loss, one son, Verni, of Dyersville, two daughters, Verna of Elkader and Mrs. William Zittergruen of Garber; one brother, Ed O'Connor of Amboy, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Mary McNamara, of Rock Valley, Iowa; four grandsons and one granddaughter. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Michael's Catholic church. Interment was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.

Michael J. O'Connor was born at Westernport, Maryland, Dec. 2, 1868. He was familiarly known as "Mike." At Garber he operated a blacksmith shop and implement business. He was active in the organization of the Farmers State Bank and had been a director of the institution ever since its organization. He was active in Democrat politics, he was Democratic committeeman in Volga township. His daughter, Mrs. William Zittergruen, had the given name of Evelyn. Another brother, Dr. P. H. O'Connor, of Amboy, Minn., died the previous Christmas Day.
