James E. Jacobson, who died in the Moran hospital here about 11:30 last Wednesday evening, after he had been shot at the fair grounds earlier in the evening, was born Sept. 6, 1907, at Nichols, Muscatine county, Iowa. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 27 years, 11 months and 9 days.
He was the son of Joseph and Bertha Jacobson, and one of eight children. His mother died in 1914,, but his father, six brothers and one sister survive. The surviving brothers are G. F. Jacobson, Fonda; G. W. Jacobson, Keokuk; Ray Jacobson, South Omaha, Nebr.; O. A. Jacobson, Independence, Mo.; Howard Jacobson, Fort Dodge, and Benny Jacobson, Cedar Rapids. The surviving sister is Mrs. Emmet Leggett, Minburn, Iowa.
The deceased, following the death of his mother, was placed in an orphans' home, where he remained until 1917, when he was adopted by John Roach. He remained with the Roach family for 13 years and during the last five years has been employed on various farms in this vicinity, the last year on the Ben F. Leonard farm.
The body was taken to the M. J. Roach farm, here, Friday afternoon and from there to St. Joseph's church at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, where services were conducted by the Rev. J. P. Taken. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. Casketbearers were: Gerald Feeney, Ray Humphrey, Dan Barton Jr., Dominic Miller, Leo Roach and Edwin Losch.
G. F., Howard and Benny, together with the wives of the first and third named, were here to attend the funeral services.
