Clayton County Register, Thur., 22 Aug. 1935.
Mrs. Ingeborg Larson, nee Olsen, died August 9th, 1935, at her home in Highland township of this county. For a number of years her health had been poor, her strength failing gradually the last year or more. Several weeks ago she suffered an attack of what is commonly known as summer flu. Weakened as she was, she was unable to overcome the effects of this ailment, though at times she seemed to rally. The day before her death she appeared to feel stronger, but it proved to be only the hectic flush that ofttimes precedes the arrival of the grim reaper of men.
Mrs. Larson was born in Skurdalen, Hallingdal, Norway, on August 30, 1859, and thus had reached the age of 75 years, 11 months and 21 days. Her parents came to America in 1869 and she came with them. They left Norway April 8 and arrived in Clayton county on May 25 of that year, making their new home in Marion township. She lived in Marion until 1878, when she removed to Highland, where she since has resided.
In 1873 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Ole Valdeland, in the old Clermont Lutheran church, for at that time there was no church in Marion.
She was married to Halvor Larson on June 15, 1878. To this union three children were born: Albert H. Larson and Olavus Larson, now residing in Highland township, and Mrs. Christine Palmer, who died a number of years ago.
Her husband, a Civil War veteran, died Nov. 4, 1916, and since then she has made her home with the family of her son, Olavus.
Besides the two sons mentioned, the deceased left three step-children: Lars H. Larson of Highland township, Mrs. Jennie Howard of Churdan, Iowa, and Mrs. Belle Johnson of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nine step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren, to mourn the passing of their devoted and loving mother and grandmother. With them join the people of the whole community, among whom she had lived for more than half a century, their welfare and good occupying an important place in her kindly and unselfish heart. Their affection and esteem, accorded her in fond prodigality, remained one of her most cherished possessions. To that large list must be added other relatives and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances extending far beyond the immediate field wherein her active and industrious life's work was laid.
She was buried August 11, in the Highland Lutheran church cemetery. She had been a member of this church since its organization. Funeral services at the home and at the church were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. G. Gunsten. At the home a duet was sung by Adolph Benson and Miss Frances Finley, and at the church Mr. Benson sang two songs. Beautiful and profuse floral tributes and many memorial wreaths attested the respect and esteem held for her.
The pallbearers were Oscar Benson, Leo Boland, Will Cheeseman, Alfred Cook, Lucien Donlon, and Orwald Larson.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Palmer and daughter, Jeanette, of Chicago; Mrs. Ferne Youngblood and daughters, Genevieve and Mabel, Deane Howard, and Mrs. Harold Brody, all of Churdan, Iowa
