Clayton County Register, Thur., 8 Aug. 1935. Volga City News columns.
Ruth Lovett McChesney passed away suddenly in her home in Fayette, Iowa, on the morning of July 31, 1935. Had she lived until Aug. 21st, she would have reached her 47th birthday.
When very young, Ruth entered the Volga school and graduated in the year 1904 as an outstanding and prominent student. One of the most highly significant phases of her life was seeking after a greater knowledge, and after achieving a pre-university career at Cornell college, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, she entered the State University of Minnesota for one year. Soon after she took her degree from Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, Iowa. The standards and ideals of these three institutions furnished her with a heritage for becoming a worthy teacher in the schools of Iowa for a period of three years.
Ruth's loyalty and wholesomeness of influence was extended still further when she entered into her service with the Young Women's Christian Association in Minneapolis, Troy, N.Y., Dubuque, Iowa, and New York City.
At the age of twelve, Ruth united with the M.E. church of Volga, and was always a faithful and tireless worker in the Christian field.
On June 17, 1922 she was married to Herbert C. McChesney, whom she leaves to mourn, along with her beloved father and mother and numerous relatives and friends.
In Memoriam.
"Now we sail,
Where, shall we anchor."Our motto - Class of 1904.
Gone to the grave has our loved one,
Gone in her youthful bloom.
Lowly would we bend, schoolmates
and friends,
To welcome her back from the
Tomb.
But such is God's will,
Death's swift angel has taken
her near,
Leaving only a fond memory
Of a true friend, so dear.Class of 1904.
