Relatives received word last Monday announcing the death of W. L. Sloan, former resident and buttermaker of the local creamery, of Wheatland. Masonic funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Witte, Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. C. Fisch, pastor of the St. Paul's Reformed Church. Interment was made in Pine Hill cemetery.
The deceased was born in Freedona, N.Y., in 1864, and came to Iowa at the age of six, locating at Strawberry Point. In 1884 he was married to Miss Tina A. Duerst, moving to Lowden, and for 20 years working as buttermaker. Mrs. Sloan passed away in 1923. Mr. Sloan was a member of Friendship Camp, R.N. of A. at Strawberry Point. Surviving are the two daughters, Mrs. Matt (Lena) Hart, of Davenport, and Mrs. Fred (Sarah) Witte, of Wheatland, and six grandchildren; also one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Allie Deyo, Jule D. Sloan and Dr. George Sloan, all of Strawberry Point.
