Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 Apr. 1935. Clayton column.

Ellen Beckett Beaty, daughter of Peter William and Elizabeth Beckett, was born in Clayton, Iowa, Sept. 12, 1869, and passed away in the hospital at Rockford, Ill., April 8, 1935. She was the second child of a family of six children, Lizzie Skinner of Glen Haven, Wis., William and Samuel Beckett, both of Clayton; one brother, Charles, passing away five years ago, and one sister, Annie, who died in infancy.

In 1891 she was united in marriage to James Beaty of Blanding, Ill., and to this union were born four boys, John, Lawrence and LeVerne of Rockford, Ill., and James, who passed away when a baby. The Beatys spent 28 years in Blanding, then came to Iowa, where they lived on a farm near Clayton for five years, at which time they came to town to make their home. Mr. Beaty passed away in 1927, and after that her aged father, Wm. Beckett, came to make his home with her.

After her father's death last September, her health gradually failed. She had spent the winter with her sons in Rockford, where every effort was made to build up her strength, but it was not to be.

Besides her three sons, two brothers and one sister, she leaves eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends to mourn her passing. Always a kind and thoughtful neighbor, a faithful church worker, with a helping hand extended to everyone, Mrs. Beaty was loved by young and old. Her loss is deeply felt by all.

She was brought from Rockford Wednesday and funeral services were held Thursday in the Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. G. Zeilinger of Wyoming and interment was made in the Clayton cemetery.
