Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 Apr. 1935.
Monona: John Cameron Rowland, the son of Elmore and Lucinda Rowland, was born in Allamakee county, December 9, 1862, and died at his home in Monona, April 3, 1935, at the age of 73 years.
He was married to Miss Augusta Weber, December 9, 1890, and they were the parents of four children, all of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Perry Thompson of Algona, Iowa; Mrs. James Cunningham of Monona; Roy E. Rowland of Garnavillo; and Earle Rowland of Dallas, Texas.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Rowland settled on the farm three miles north of Monona where he was born and all their children were born, and grew to manhood and womanhood.
In 1919 they moved to the fine home in Monona where his death occurred. Mr. Rowland was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, was fair and honest in his dealings with his fellow men. He was a highly respected citizen and many friends visited him during the period of his illness.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Augusta Rowland, and his four children and also two sisters, Mrs. Frank Tangeman of Mindora, Wis., and Mrs. M__ (looks like two letters possibly followed by a period) Carlesen or Carleson of Wilder, Idaho.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the First Methodist church with burial in the city cemetery. The Rev. Louis H. Joslin officiated.
