Clayton County Register, Thur., 21 Mar. 1935. Monona column.
Mrs. Marie Steele Delaney of Cedar Rapids died rather suddenly, having been ill only two days, of pneumonia. Her brothers had visited her the evening before her death and felt she was on the road to recovery, but He who knows best called her to Himself.
Marie Steele, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Steele, was born and reared in Monona and was an unusual daughter, assisting in the rearing of the younger children, and to them always remained a dear sister. In 1919 the Steele family moved to a farm near Marengo, Iowa, and several years later she was married to Lester M. Delaney of Watkins, Iowa. The first year of their married life was spent on a farm near Watkins, and later they moved to Cedar Rapids, which has since been their home.
Surviving her are her bereaved husband, Lester M. Delaney, of Cedar Rapids; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Steele, of Marengo; four brothers, Ambrose and Edward Steele of Oelwein, Leo Steele in California, and Harry Steele in Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Redman and Miss Helen Regina Steele of Marengo.
