Mrs. Marie Bruns died March 8, 1935, at her home here, after several months illness and suffering. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home to the Lutheran Evangelical church, and burial was made in the cemetery.
She was born at Garnavillo, Dec. 20, 1847, where she grew to womanhood. March 10, 1865, she was married to Fred Bruns, and they were the parents of 11 children, all of whom survive her. In 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Bruns moved to Monona where Mr. Bruns died in 1915.
Mrs. Bruns was a good neighbor and a kind friend, a good Christian, living a quiet, holy life, happy with her children.
Surviving her are her eleven children, Mrs. Sophia Kregel of Garnavillo; Mrs. Margaret Kaiser of Monona; Henry Bruns of Monona; Mrs. Emma Meyer of Postville; Mrs. Emile Bonker of Manly; Mrs. Lucia Grace of Canada; George L. Bruns of Monona; Mrs. Rose Mohning of LeMars; William E. Bruns of Farmersburg; Miss Mahala Bruns and Mrs. Melvina Tewes, both at home, and who tenderly cared for her, with the assistance of the other daughters, in her last illness. A good soul has gone to her reward. Surviving her are 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also.
