Samuel Nicklas Adams died at his home at Athol, Mass., Tuesday morning, Mar. 5th, of pneumonia.
Samuel was born in Elkader on March 13, 1896. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Adams of Strawberry Point, formerly of Elkader. At the time of his death he reached the age of 36 years, 11 months and five days.
Sam, as he was known by his friends and comrades, was one of the first enlisted in the World War, April 23, 1917, from Elkader. He was in Supply Co. 62, Infantry 1st Co., A.E.F. Siberia. After the war he enlisted for three years more in training camp. Then he settled in Athol, Mass., which was his home at the time of his death.
September 25, 1923, he was married to Charlotte Duetsche, of Athol. To this union four children were born, namely: Samuel Jr., 10 years; Robert, 8; Shirley Jane, 5; and John, 3, who together with the widow, mourn his passing, as do his grieving parents, his three brothers and four sisters, Elzie, Henry, James, all of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Albert Holden, Mrs. Herman Reinhardt, of Elkader; Mrs. Gust Lutz of Dubuque, Mrs. Lowell Fenton of Dundee, and Mae, at home; also a number of nephews, nieces and uncles and aunts, who will miss him sadly.
Funeral services were held at his home at Athol, Mass., Saturday afternoon, March 9th. Interment was made in the Athol cemetery.
