Clayton County Register, Thur., 14 Feb. 1935.

Guttenberg: Edward Arthur Niemeyer, life-long resident and prominent business man of Guttenberg, passed away at his home here Friday evening, Feb. 8, 1935, at 7:00 o'clock, at the age of 54 years, ten months and 18 days, following a several months' illness. The cause of his death was heart trouble. Mr. Niemeyer was born at Guttenberg, March 20, 1880. He attended St. Mary's school here, later assisting his father, G. H. Niemeyer, deceased, in his clothing store, one of Guttenberg's pioneer established business places. After the death of his father, he managed the Niemeyer clothing business. On May 16, 1905, he was married to Miss Magdelena Satrau at Guttenberg. Mr. Niemeyer was a man who stood for justice and righteousness at all times. In politics he affiliated with the Democratic party, and in his death this community loses another of its worthy citizens and public spirited men. He was at one time a member of the town council here. During his illness all was done that could be done to save his life, but all to no avail. To do kind acts for his family and friends was his greatest pleasure in life at all times, and his memories will forever be cherished by all. His death is deeply mourned by his wife; one daughter, Miss Obdulia Niemeyer; one son, Milton; one grandson, Edward James Niemeyer; his mother, Mrs. G. H. Niemeyer; one brother, Oscar Niemeyer, all of Guttenberg; one sister, Mrs. Hilda West, of Moulton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true man will be sadly missed. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church in Guttenberg on Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock, with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high regard by all who knew him.
