Mrs. Laura Olson was born in Norway, August 8, 1852, came to America with her parents at the age of three years, landed in Milwaukee, Wis., July 3, 1855, and came to Prairie du Chien, Wis., the same year, where her father was employed in building the bridge across the Wisconsin river.

In the fall of 1857 she came to Clayton county, and with her parents lived near the site where the present Norway Lutheran church is now located.

On July 23, 1869, she was married to Gilbert Olson, who preceded her in death on December 31, 1911. Six children were born to this union: Ole, of Boardman township; Mrs. Nels Olson of near St. Olaf; Mrs. Ole A. Olson of Portland, Ore.; Peter and Gust of Elkader. One infant daughter, Louise, died on April 7, 1881. She also leaves to mourn: one sister, Mrs. Josephine Larson, of Boardman township; one brother, Albert Peterson, of St. Olaf; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

After a number of years on their farm in Wagner township, she moved with her husband to Elkader, which has since been her home. She died on Dec. 30, 1934, age 82 years, four months and 22 days. The departed was a Christian woman, a good mother, and remained cheerful in the faith of her Savior to the end of this life's journey.

Funeral services were held at the Home Service Co. funeral home Friday at 1 p.m., in charge of the Rev. P. Kitterer, and in Norway church, in charge of the Rev. S. J. Strandjord, with burial in Norway cemetery.
