Chas. F. Baumgartner, at 73 the oldest businessman in Strawberry Point, died at his home Tuesday afternoon following a long illness.
He was born August 6, 1876, at St. Sebald, second of a family which included 13 children.
He married Anna Neunkirch on Jan. 22, 1899, and the couple lived at their home in Strawberry Point since that time.
On July 4, 1898, he started a barber shop, soon moved across the street to the present location where it has stood for 45 years and is still doing business.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Burnell and Alvin of Chicago; brothers August and Fred, Oelwein, Martin, Herman, Louis, Will and John, Strawberry Point, and George, Dundee; a sister Mrs. Sigmund Otdoerfer, Strawberry Point, and a niece, Edna Neunkirch, who cared for him during his illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the Emanuel Lutheran church in Strawberry Point. The funeral will be in Strawberry Point cemetery.
