Mrs. Valeria Ann Germar, 74, died Friday, Sept. 30, at her home in town following a short illness. She was the former Valeria Ann Green, daughter of the late Peter and Lydia Sherman Green, and was born Nov. 9, 1874, near Volga. Practically her entire life was spent in and around Volga.
In October, 1902, she was married to Otto Germar and they established their home here.
Five children were born to them of which three have preceded her in death: a daughter, Mrs. Gretchen Tranel, and two sons, Gilbert and Russell, also her husband preceded her in death July 31, 1949.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Russell (Leota) Peterson, Logan, Utah, and one son, Norbert, at home; also four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Walter Green of California, besides other relatives. A brother, William Green, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Germar was a member of the Methodist church, the Royal Neighbor lodge, the Volga Study club and for many years served as secretary of the Hill Crest cemetery association.
Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church with the Rev. Leslie J. Faris, pastor, in charge.
William Christeleit, Owen Radloff, Oaklin Probert, John Conboy, William Wenger and Peter Wolf served as casket bearers. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
(Note: The original obit gives her birth year as 1876 and age at death as 72 years, but a later edition of this newspaper corrected her birth year to 1874, which increased her age at death to 74 years, as shown here.)
