Mrs. Ella Caroline Meyer, daughter of Justus and Dorothea Wickmann Henkes, was born in Wagner township on April 8, 1884. In early infancy she was baptized at the Goodin church. She spent the early years of her life in the community in which she was born.
She was married Feb. 17, 1908, to August W. Meyer. Shortly after their marriage they moved to their farm in Wagner township which remained her home until her death. For the past several years she made her home there with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Al Kadlec. Her husband died Jan. 7, 1939.
Nov. 20, 1932, she was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church, at Farmersburg, by the Rev. H. M. Adix.
Since May of this year Mrs. Meyer had been in failing health. For the past month her condition was considered serious. She had grown weaker in the past several weeks and died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. During her illness she was cared for by her daughter and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen, Mrs. Al Kadlec, her son-in-law, Al Kadlec, two granddaughters, Sharon and Virginia Kadlec; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Walter and Mrs. Effie Fuelling; two brothers, Arthur Henkes and Saward Henkes; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Harnack and Mrs. Emma Gossmann; besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
One granddaughter, two half-brothers and four half-sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 in St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg, with burial in the Lutheran cemetery at Monona.
