Strawberry Point: George John Werger, 89, died at his home in Strawberry Point late Saturday evening after a long illness. Son of George and Rebecca Weger, he was born near St. Sebald Feb. 8, 1860, and lived in that vicinity until he retired to Strawberry Point in 1911. In January, 1885, he was married to Mrs. Caroline Weger, who died June 22, 1922. On June 4, 1924, he was married to Mary Glass of Strawberry Point, who survives him. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Sophie Neumann, and a son, William Weger, all of Strawberry Point; six stepdaughters, Mrs. Emma Falk, Mrs. Lena Baumgartner, and Mrs. Will Haufle, all of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Mary Griesse and Mrs. Henry Griesse, both of Rock Rapids, and Mrs. Minnie Lindner, Roseburg, Ore.; and three half-brothers, Gottlob Weger and John Weger of Strawberry Point and John Reck of Junean, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Interment was in the Strawberry Point cemetery following services at the Emanuel Lutheran church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. S. J. Meyer was in charge of the service.
