Reburial services for Sgt. N. J. Bailey, who was killed in Action on the Pacific island of Okinawa June 15, 1945, will be held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, at the Witt funeral chapel and at 2 o'clock in the Congregational Christian church. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly will officiate, and burial will be in the East Side cemetery.

The casketed remains of the Elkader soldier arrived Wednesday.

Ner Jason Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Bailey of Elkader, was born April 2, 1919, at Maquoketa. He came to Elkader with his parents when he was nine years old, graduating from the Elkader high school in 1936 and from the Elkader Junior college in 1938. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering from Iowa State college in 1941.

From the time of his graduation from college until he entered the army June 29, 1944, he was employed as general engineer at the Lyons metal company at Aurora, Ill. He received his basic training at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Ark., and was transferred to Fort Ord, Calif., before going overseas Dec. 19, 1944. He served in the infantry, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Badge posthumously.

Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Loy, of Lorimer, whom he married Nov. 1, 1941, at Aurora, Ill., and two daughters, Jane, six, and Ann, four; his parents; and three sisters, Mrs. Edward Burlingame Jr., and Mrs. Evert Neal of Elkader, and Mrs. Richard Busching, Montgomery, Ala.

Pallbearers will be six former classmates and close friends, Walter Allen, Ray Turner, Homer Griffith, Dan Prouty, Lorando Embretson and Kenneth Olson.

Rites For Elkader GI
Elkader, Ia. - The remains of Sgt. N.J. Bailey, of Elkader, arrived here Wednesday evening for final rites and burial. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Witt funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church. the Rev. Harold J. Kelly, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the East Side cemetery.

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts will be in charge of military honors. All business places will be closed during the services.

Sgt. Bailey was killed in action June 18, 1945, at Okinawa. He was a squad leader in the 10th army and was killed three days before the close of the Okinawa campaign. His remains have been interred temporarily at Okinawa.

Sgt. Bailey was graduated from Iowa State college in June, 1941, and was employed at Aurora, Ill., until he was called into service in June, 1944. He was sent overseas Dec. 19, 1944.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, and two daughters, Jane and Anne, of Cedar Rapids; his parents of Elkader; three sisters, Mrs. Edward J. Burlingame, Jr. and Mrs. Everett Neal, both of Elkader, and Mrs. Richard Busching, of Montgomery, Ala.
