Alma Minnie Samp was born near Elkader, August 23, 1875, the daughter of John and Minnie Hagensick.
On Aug. 23, 1895, she was married to Conrad E. Samp at Elkader. Five daughters were born to them, one of whom died in infancy, and another, Mrs. Ray Durfey, at the age of 23 years.
Mrs. Samp lived in Oelwein for the past 26 years and had been a member of Zion Lutheran church for the past 17 years and a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid. After being in failing health for the past few years, she was taken to the hospital and died there Jan. 29, at the age of 73 years.
Survivors are her husband and her daughters: Mrs. Fred Baumgartner, Oelwein; Mrs. J. F. Gubbins and Mrs. Frank Hanson, Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Donald and Wayne Baumgartner, Oelwein, and John Christensen, Chicago; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Wagner, Elkader; Mrs. P. M. Moser, Aransos, Texas, and Mrs. Amanda Looby, Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Will Hagensick, Brookings, S.D.; John, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Glenn, Maynard, Ark.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran church, Oelwein, Feb. 1, with Rev. H. E. Dieter officiating. Interment was made at Oaklawn.
