Word came from Arlington Monday that Elmer Bachtell had dropped dead at his home there. The remains will be brought to Volga for burial. Mr. and Mrs. Bachtell were former residents of Volga.

Elmer Bachtell was born at Volga, Ia., April 16, 1871, and died at his home in Arlington, Dec. 22nd, 1924, at 7:30 a.m. He was married to Bessie Smith at National, Iowa, August 25, 1895. Eight children were born to this union Lester E. of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Claud O. of Monte Sano, Wash.; Leo D. of Arlington, Ia. ; Winnifred Ecker of Waverly, Ia.; Valmah E. and La Von at home; two dying in infancy. He also leaves a aged mother, Mrs. David Bachtell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and five brothers and one sister, Edd of Seattle, Wash., Ernest of St. Olaf, Charles and Vern of McGregor, Iowa, Warren of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Leafie Henderson, George and Ray preceding him in death. Mr. Bachtell moved from Volga in May, 1901, to Arlington, where he followed the blacksmith trade until ten years ago when he went into the produce business, which he followed until his death, which was very sudden, coming with no warning while he was eating his breakfast. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Woodman lodges. H represented Fayette county in Grand Lodge in 1914 and 1915. The funeral services were conducted by the Odd Fellows on Sunday, December 28th, after which his remains were taken to Volga, Iowa, where they were laid in Hill Crest Cemetery. The family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
