Brought Home for Burial
Homer J. Foster, born at Heniker, N.H. Dec. 22, 1839, died at the Soldiers home at Milwaukee Oct. 18, 1909.

He came to Iowa in 1855. He commenced to teach school at the age of 18 years and taught one term at North McGregor.

He enlisted in 1863 and served on the Plains for three years. He was in the Battle of Julesburg and was promoted to Lieutenant.

Since the war he made his residence in the south. He was foreman of a Lumber Company for a number of years and served for six years as Postmaster at Kennedy, Mo.

He was of a noble generous disposition, quiet and retiring and had a host of friends.

The remains were brought to McGregor for burial. Service were held at the Pleasant Ridge M.E. church, Rev. Wyatt officiating.

Homer Foster, a veteran, who died at the Soldiers' Home, was buried at Pleasant Ridge*, Thursday.

Notes: Homer T. Foster, Sgt. Co. F, 7th IA Cav., died 10/18/1909 at the Soldiers' Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Soldiers Home record & the burial record for Wood National cemetery, in Wood, Wisconsin, indicates the remains were moved for burial to McGregor 10/19/09. His personal effects were shipped to E.J. Foster, brother, McGregor. (both records online at Ancestry .com)

*Burial is in Council Hill cemetery (located on Pleasant Ridge Rd.)
