--- ---
Oscar Parker Atwood, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Atwood, was born on a farm northwest of Monona, Iowa, June 1?, 1855 [unable to accurately read day of birth], and passed away at his home in Seattle, Wash., at 8 o'clock Sunday morning, April 21, 1918.
His boyhood was spent on the farm. His young manhood found him engaged in teaching school, and afterward employed as a clerk in the L.L. Von Berg store at Luana. In 1885 he went to Arizona and the next five years were spent in that state and in California. In 1890 he went to Seattle, Washington, where he engaged in the mercantile business with his brother Frank. During the Klondike rush he went to Alaska and remained there three years. Returning to Seattle in 1900, he again became associated with his brother in the same business as previously.
His marriage occurred in Seattle in 1904. About five years later his condition of health forbade active business interests and his retirement followed.
He leaves to mourn his departure, beloved wife, Lou Atwood, of Seattle, Washington. There also remain three brothers and one sister, Frank of Seattle, Wash.; Friend, of Brune, Minn.; Seth, of Bellingham, Wash.; and Erdine, now Mrs. Geo. Land, of Waukon, Iowa.
He was of affectionate disposition and deeply attracted to his wife and home, a man of splendid business ability and sustained an excellent reputation as a citizen and friend.
He was made a Master Mason in Clayton county lodge No. 70 A.F. & A.M. at Monona, Iowa, March 26, 1885, and remained an upright Mason until the time of his death.
His brother, Frank, accompanied his remains from Seattle to Monona, where the funeral was [illegible] in the Methodist Episcopalian church, at 2:30 o'clock, Friday, April 26. Rev. Clyde F. Baker conducted the funeral services. The pall bearers were selected from among the Masons and the Lodge attended in a body, conducting the burial service also.
Those present from out of town were, the two brothers, Frank and Friend, and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Land and family; Mr. and Mrs. Gus McNeil of Los Angeles, California.
