Elkader Register, Thur., 7 Aug. 1924.
Ernest Boettcher was born Nov. 28th, 1870, at Neusteinort, Germany, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna Glesne, and mother, Mrs. Wilhelmine Boettcher, Elkader, Iowa, on Thursday, July 31st, at 9:30 in the evening, at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 3 days.
When two years old he came with his parents to this country. The family settled in Clayton County, Iowa, where Ernest has resided ever since. When grown up to young manhood he worked on the farm during the summer and would assist his widowed mother and sister during the winter months. The parties for whom he worked do say that, although Ernest was not what you would call a fast worker, he was always dependable.
Not being very strong, he oftimes would have to give up work. At such times he would always find a home and good care with his mother and sister. Of late he began to fail visibly. Although not suffering much, as he himself would repeatedly state, he grew weaker from day to day, until he closed his eyes in the last sleep.
He leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Wilhelmine Boettcher, two brothers and two sisters; Richard, of St. Paul, Minn.; Henry, of S. Dakota; Mrs. Anna Glesne, of Elkader, Iowa; and Mina, of Minneapolis, Minn. His father and three sisters preceded him in death. The sisters were; Mrs. Maria Cleves, of Grundy Center, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Jungblut, of Elkader, Iowa; and Hattie, who died at home.
